Questions About Dentures?

At D3 Clinic we’re committed to offering a comprehensive Denture service.

Complete dentures can provide significant comfort and improve your overall quality of life for patients who’ve lost all of their natural teeth.

Full dentures replace all of your natural teeth with false ones. The foundation of complete dentures is a custom-made acrylic base that fits snugly over the gums. The base is designed to create a seal with the gyms which in turn holds the dentures in place.

When the dentures are properly fitted the acrylic base sits on the gumline and creates a mild suction or ‘seal’. This helps the dentures stay in place while you talk or chew, allowing you to be able to freely live life without worrying about your teeth.

If you find you’re having trouble with eating and speaking this is a problem that complete dentures solves.

Dentures allow an individual to eat a wider variety of foods that would’ve previously been incredibly difficult or entirely impossible to chew. Initially this may take a bit of practice as you’re given the full functionality of your mouth as complete dentures can restore much of the chewing power and comfort that was lost because of missing teeth.
Speaking is another aspect that complete dentures are able to change. Dentures help to restore normal speech patterns, as missing teeth often change the way you pronounce things. With dentures correctly fitted, you can immediately notice how your speech is more clear and confident.

Dentures play a crucial role in restoring the natural fullness and shape of the face, addressing a collapsed facial curtain (e.g. sunken or sagging features due to loss of support from teeth). By providing this added support, dentures not only enhance your facial appearance but also help boost your overall confidence, allowing you to smile freely and comfortably without being self-conscious.

With proper care, Complete Dentures typically last between 5 to 10 years. At D3 Clinic we use the highest quality materials to give you the best quality we can offer, however your complete dentures may need to be relined or rebased due to changes in your mouth and gums over time, generally the reasoning to change your complete dentures is due to the natural wear and tear of them.

In order to have your Complete Dentures be in their best condition it’s best to get regular dental checkups to ensure they are fitting correctly, comfortably and to be able to address any issues.

The lifespan of partial dentures can vary depending on several factors, but typically partial dentures can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years with proper care and maintenance.

(NEW TEXT) Partial dentures typically last between 5 to 10 years with proper care. Factors like bone loss, gum changes, and general oral health can affect their fit and function over time. That’s why at D3 Clinic, we don’t just create high-quality, custom-fit dentures using premium materials—we also focus on long-term comfort and success.

Our team ensures your dentures blend naturally with your smile and also offer a structured aftercare plan that includes regular check-ups, professional cleaning, and adjustments as needed. This proactive approach helps maintain the fit, extend the lifespan of your dentures, and keep you smiling confidently for years to come.

You need to brush your partial dentures gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush, denture cleaner or even mild soap and water. Like complete dentures, you can remove them before you sleep and soak them in a solution of water and denture cleaner overnight.

Adjusting to your new partial dentures is a journey, and while it may take some time to get used to the feeling of having something in your mouth that wasn’t there before. The more you wear your partial dentures and integrate them into your daily life, you’ll notice they’ll become more comfortable. Initially there might be a slight change in your eating habits but with practice, you’ll be able to enjoy your meals just as you did before. Remember, keeping your dentures clean and removing them at night is essential for maintaining your oral health and avoiding any discomfort.
At D3 Clinic, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Our expert dental hygiene services ensure that your dentures stay in great condition, and our team is always available to answer any questions, so you can feel confident and comfortable with your smile.

The process usually takes 3-4 weeks and can normally be completed within 4 appointments. The timeline can vary depending on the specific requirements needed for your procedure as we might need to prepare your mouth in order to fit them correctly.

Our team of professionals are with you from start to finish and offer assistance throughout the whole process.

The structure of Implant-Supported Dentures is exactly as the name sounds, they’re a full denture supported by dental implants. The implants themselves are typically titanium posts that are placed inside the jawbone to keep the dentures in place, making them incredibly stable for dental functions like talking and chewing. For these implants, typically four to six of these rod-like implants are placed along the upper or lower jaw. This is different from regular dentures as with traditional dentures the suction aspect that keeps them in place relies solely on adhesives and gum suction.

With Implant-Supported Dentures, patients won’t have to deal with discomfort or irritation that is caused by traditional dentures. They can enjoy regular meals and speak or laugh confidently without worrying about their dentures slipping or falling out.

Traditionally, regular dentures can last between 5-7 years before needing repair or replacement with assisted care. Implant-Supported Dentures can survive up to 10 years or more without repair or replacement. There’s also an inexpensive renewal every 2 years that is required to assist in replacing the rubber fitting. This fitting is needed to support the denture and help fix it onto the implants.

If you attend regular dental checkups and care for your Implant-Supported Dentures they may even last a lifetime.

After the Implant-Supported Dentures are inserted inside the jaw of the patient, the next stage is something all patients experience and this is called osseointegration. This is where the bone fuses with the implants to ensure the success of the dental restoration process. The implant functions the same as natural tooth roots within the jaw. After three to six months, the patient will be ready to get permanent dentures affixed to the implants if everything is monitored and goes well.

Even if you’ve had regular dentures for years you can still opt for Implant-Supported Dentures. People who’ve used traditional dentures are the likely candidates and appreciate the remarkable benefits of having a stable dental restoration.

In some cases, the dentist can use the existing dentures as a fixed temporary option as the patient recovers from the implants. However, if the patient has been missing their natural teeth for too long, they may have experienced some form of bone loss, meaning that a bone graft procedure will be required in order to place the implants successfully. At D3 Clinic we collaborate with our clinic and expert surgeons to achieve the best possible result.

Denture Relining is an excellent and efficient way to maximise your comfort and ensure you see the best results from your dentures. It helps prevent sore spots from forming on your gums or tongue and reduces the need for extras like denture adhesives.

It’s important to note that relining is not a replacement for old, worn-out or damaged dentures. You may need denture repair or a new set altogether in these cases.

You may also need a new set of dentures if the shape of your mouth has changed from when you first had your dentures.

For some it’s obvious when you need denture relining or repairing, other times it may not be as clear.

Here’s some potential warning signs that indicate you may need to consider denture repair or relining:

  • Your dentures no longer fit as well as they did previously
  • Your dentures slip around in your mouth
  • Your speech sounds slurred, or you whistle while you talk
  • You have difficulty eating foods that you could once eat with ease
  • Your dentures are visibly cracked or damaged
  • You notice darkened areas on your dentures that catch debris
  • You have stains that don’t go away with regular cleaning
  • You have chronic sore spots inside your mouth
  • You experience general discomfort while wearing your dentures

If any of these issues occur, at the very least, you should contact D3 Clinic for a consultation. We can evaluate your oral health, help you get to the bottom of your symptoms, and recommend the most effective steps moving forward.

If you’re feeling worried or nervous about your first denture repair or relining appointment, rest assured as we will be there alongside you the whole time. Here’s a little about what you can expect:

A standard appointment typically goes as follows,

  • The denture prosthetist will conduct a complete exam of your mouth
  • They will assess your dentures and take note of any damage, stains, etc.
  • They will make recommendations to address your specific oral health issues
  • They will tell you if a denture repair or reline is the best approach
  • They will talk you through the procedure, the cost, and how long it’ll take
  • They will take impressions or images as needed

As you can see, the appointment won’t be too different from any other one you’d normally have for dentures. Typically it doesn't take very long either, so you’ll be able to wrap things up and get on with your day in no time!

Depending on the individual, some may require a reline every 1-2 years. The initial post-fitting adjustment period may mean more frequent relining, typically within the first few weeks of getting your denture placement. At D3 Clinic our team of professionals will assess when you need to get your dentures relined during this crucial period.

Professional cleaning services for denture wearers is essential as plaque and tartar are sticky films and hardened deposits that form on the teeth. Brushing and flossing at home can remove plaque, but tartar is often harder and requires professional tools. This is something that can affect both natural and fake teeth.

At D3 Clinic our experienced dentists are able to prevent gum disease with their expertise as irritated gums can lead to gum disease, which in turn means that due to the gums being damaged this can lead to further teeth loss. With our dental hygiene service your dentures will be looked at with confidence in order to steer you in the best possible direction for your situation.

  • Assessment: The dentist will assess your gums and bone levels using digital x-rays and measurements.
  • Scaling and polishing: Plaque and tartar will be removed from your teeth using specialized tools, and your teeth will be polished to smooth out the surface and remove stains.
  • Flossing: Your teeth will be flossed to remove any remaining debris or plaque.
  • Fluoride treatment: Fluoride treatment may be applied to strengthen teeth and help prevent cavities.
  • Oral hygiene instructions: You'll receive advice on proper brushing and flossing techniques and other ways to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Regular check-ups: Most people need to get their teeth cleaned and examined every six months, but this may vary depending on individual needs and risk factors.
  • Individualized plans: Your dentist or hygienist will determine the frequency of your appointments based on your specific oral health needs and risk factors.

If you’re worried about sensitivity, let the professionals caring for you at D3 Clinic know before the cleaning starts. We may use different techniques than originally planned or even apply numbing agents to minimize discomfort.

At D3 Clinic we prioritize the comfort of our patients so don’t be nervous to communicate with us any concerns or worries as we want to make sure that you feel at ease before, during or after your appointment.

Clean your dentures daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and mild soap. Avoid using toothpaste as it can be abrasive. It's also important to rinse your dentures after each meal, keep them moist when they're not in use, and handle them carefully to avoid dropping them.
