Complete dentures — also called full dentures, false teeth, or dental plates — are removable appliances that replace all teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. They are the standard solution for patients who have lost all their natural teeth and need to restore chewing function, speech, and facial support.

At D3 Clinic, we design and fabricate complete dentures that prioritise fit, retention, and functional performance. Getting these fundamentals right is what determines whether dentures work in practice — not just in appearance. But appearance matters too: we take care to design dentures that support your facial structure, suit your age, and look natural.

Losing your natural teeth is a significant life event. It affects how you eat, how you speak, how you look, and how you feel about yourself. We understand that, and we approach every case with that understanding.

Comprehensive Denture Services: Complete, Partial & More

The most common complaint we hear from patients with full dentures is that they are loose, uncomfortable, or difficult to eat with and one of the main underlying causes is poor fit.

Upper dentures rely on a precise seal between the denture base and the palate (roof of the mouth) to create suction.
If the fit is even slightly off, that seal breaks and the denture moves.

Lower dentures are inherently more challenging — they sit on a narrow ridge of bone and rely on muscle control, gravity, and an accurate fit to stay in place. There is no palatal seal to create suction against.
Patients with significant bone loss in the lower jaw often struggle most with excessive movement and retention, which is why implant-supported and retained prosthetics (snap on dentures) can be a great option.

Bone resorption — the gradual loss of jawbone that occurs after teeth are removed — changes the shape of the ridge your dentures sit on over time. This means even well-made dentures will eventually lose their fit.
Regular reviews and timely relines address this & dentures typically need replacing every 6 to 10 years.

At D3 Clinic, we use detailed functional impressions that capture your mouth under the conditions dentures actually operate in — not just a static snapshot. This produces a more accurate fit from the start.

Types of Complete Dentures

Conventional Complete Dentures — Made after remaining teeth have been removed and the gums have healed (typically 6–12 weeks). This produces the most accurate fit because the tissue has settled.

Immediate Dentures — Fabricated before extractions and fitted the same day. You are never without teeth, but the fit will change as your gums heal and will require relining. These are a transitional solution.

Digital Complete Dentures — Designed using digital software and milled from a single block of high-density acrylic. This produces a more dimensionally accurate result with improved material strength. Digital dentures also include a permanent digital backup for efficient future replacement.
See our Digital Dentures page for the full technical comparison.
Digital dentures are designed using advanced dental software, as shown here — allowing precise control over fit, bite, and tooth positioning before fabrication.

FAQs

Questions About Complete Dentures?

They are the same thing. False teeth, dental plates, and teeth plates are all common names for dentures.

Typically 6 to 10 years with proper care. The acrylic teeth wear down and fit changes as bone resorption continues. Regular reviews help identify when relining or replacement is needed.

Tooth loss causes facial changes over time due to lost structural support. Dentures provide support to the cheeks and lips, helping restore a more natural facial appearance. However, dentures do not prevent ongoing bone resorption. Implant-supported options better preserve bone long-term.

You can eat a wide range of foods, but complete dentures restore approximately 20–25% of natural biting force. Hard, sticky, or very chewy foods may remain challenging. Implant-supported dentures restore significantly more biting force.

Yes. We encourage it, particularly for elderly patients or those attending for the first time.
